TRAINING MEN FOR HEAVEN

Lesson #6: Men must be ambitious and conduct themselves perfectly and wisely.

Proverbs 4:18

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Men must always seek to become better role models for their families. Men are a representation of God’s leadership in the room. In the previous lesson, we spoke about the fact that men are the priests of the household. This means we must constantly go before God on behalf of our family. Men must anchor Christ in the household and the family structure. When Christ is anchored in the home, the gates of hell will not prevail against it. With each step that a man takes each day to represent Christ and be like Jesus, he becomes more perfect in his conduct. However, perfection will never be accomplished through human efforts but only through Christ. Philippians 4:13 says that “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Through Christ, all things are possible. Therefore, a man must understand that success achieved through his own efforts is susceptible to failure and can disappoint the entire family. Each day when a man rises, he should aim to always come before God and declare his brokenness, that Christ may justify him. Through this process, with the help of God, he begins to shine the light of Christ in his home, then in his community, and through different means, utilizing his gifts and talents. A man must remember that the life he lives today will come with consequences tomorrow; therefore, in every way possible, avoid the way of darkness that the adversary will put before you to destroy your character and purpose. The devil aims to kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus promises life. Proverbs 3:1-2 says that we should let our heart keep his commandments (God’s spoken words), for long days, long life, and peace will they give you. The more we meditate on the word of God, the closer we come to that perfect way and perfect day.

Matthew 5:14

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

Philippians 2:15

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Be mindful of being too overconfident in oneself.

James 3:16

For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

1 Thessalonians 4:11

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

Luke 9:25

For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 23:12

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

1 John 2:16

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Lesson #7: Men must PROTECT THEIR PURITY.

Psalms 119:9

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

1) What purity is (and what it is not)

- Purity is loyalty to God in body, mind, and spirit—not only “avoiding sex,” but guarding desires, thoughts, eyes, speech, and motives.

- Purity is strength, not weakness. The world mocks restraint (the righteous approach) because it exposes bondage.

- Purity is not shame. God’s standard is not to embarrass men; it is to preserve them for purpose, peace, and covenant.

2) Why purity matters for men

- Sexual sin does not stay private—**it reshapes the mind**, weakens self-control, damages relationships, and can harden the conscience.

- Purity protects:

    - Your future marriage (trust, intimacy, stability)

    - Your spiritual sensitivity (clear conviction, stronger prayer life)

    - Your leadership (integrity and authority without hypocrisy)

    - Society and the next generation (men of discipline build healthy homes)

3) The pressure of this age (and how to answer it)

Men who protect virginity (or practice repentance and restraint) are often labeled “odd,” “awkward,” or mocked with false accusations. This is a tactic to:

- make holiness look foolish,

- make sin look normal,

- and make a compromise feel necessary to belong.

Answer it like a Godly man:

- “I don’t follow the crowd—I follow Christ.”

- “I’m protecting my covenant before I ever meet my wife.”

- “My body is not for entertainment; it’s for God’s glory.”

4) Live according to the Word (Psalm 119:9) — a practical method

Purity is maintained by a **daily system** of Word + prayer + boundaries:

A) Daily Word intake (clean water for the mind)

- Read Scripture daily even when you “don’t feel like it.”

- Choose passages that confront lust and train discipline (examples: Psalm 119, Proverbs 5–7, Matthew 5, 1 Thessalonians 4).

- Write one verse that addresses your weakness and keep it visible.

B) Memorization (Scripture ready in temptation)

- Memorize verses about purity, the fear of God, and self-control.

- Practice speaking the verse out loud when temptation rises.

C) Prayer with honesty

- Do not pray vague prayers. Pray specifically:

    - “Lord, cleanse my imagination.”

    - “Lord, remove appetite for evil.”

    - “Lord, give me power to flee.”

- Ask God for a deeper hatred for sin and a stronger love for holiness.

5) Guard your gates (eyes, ears, imagination)

Movies, films, music, social media, and pornography **paint pictures on the mind** and normalize fornication and adultery. A Godly man must not “play” with what will later enslave.

Practical guards:

- Avoid sexually charged entertainment (even if “everyone watches it”).

- Unfollow accounts that stir lust; block and remove triggers.

- Do not scroll when tired, lonely, or bored—those moments are vulnerable.

- Keep devices out of private places when possible (bathroom/bedroom rules).

6) Flee patterns, not only moments

Purity is often lost long before the act—through pathways:

- isolation + idleness,

- late nights + screens,

- secret conversations + flirting,

- “harmless” content that gradually becomes darker.

Replace the pathway:

- Sleep on time.

- Stay busy with productive work.

- Keep your body healthy (exercise, disciplined eating).

- Have structured days that leave less room for wandering.

7) Choose Godly friendships and accountability

Peer pressure pushes young men into sin, but **Godly brotherhood pulls men into holiness**.

- Spend time with men who fear God and honor women.

- If possible, have at least one trusted brother who can ask you direct questions and pray with you.

- Do not confide in people who joke about sin—they will train you to compromise.

8) Handle desire properly (desire is real; discipline is required)

Desire is not sin by itself, but uncontrolled desire becomes temptation, and temptation grows into sin.

Healthy responses:

- Recognize the trigger early.

- Redirect quickly: prayer, Scripture, leave the environment, physical movement.

- Do not negotiate with lust—**flee**.

9) Honor women (and honor your future wife)

A Godly man does not use women for pleasure, attention, or ego.

- Do not entertain lustful jokes or conversations.

- Avoid private emotional intimacy that leads to sexual compromise.

- Treat your future wife as “present in your decisions,” even before you meet.

10) If you have fallen: repentance, cleansing, rebuilding

God restores men who repent.

- Confess to God immediately; do not hide.

- Cut off the access point (apps, sites, relationships, entertainment).

- Replace sin with habits of holiness (Word, prayer, fellowship, service).

- Learn what led to the fall and rebuild stronger boundaries.

11) A short purity covenant (to say and live)

- I will live according to God’s Word.

- I will guard my eyes and mind.

- I will not trade holiness for acceptance.

- I will honor my future marriage covenant.

- I will flee sexual sin and pursue Christ.

Purity is not maintained by willpower alone—it is maintained by a surrendered will, trained habits, and a mind washed daily by God’s Word.

1 Corinthians 6:18

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body.

Philippians 2:15

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

STAYING PURE IS NOT HOMOSEXUAL OR WEAK, IT IS LIVING UP TO THE STANDARDS REQUIRED BY GOD.

2 Timothy 2:21

Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master, and prepared to do any good work.

Hebrews 13:4

4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

1 Timothy 4:12

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

1 Timothy 5:22

Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.

Proverbs 16:2

All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.

Lesson #8: Men must NOT BE FRIENDS OF THIS WORLD.

James 4:4

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Many things are presented before our eyes today in the world. Everything aims to keep you bound and distracted from the bible. The devil aims to keep you from the spiritual things that God desires for us to be apart. The devil knows that praying and studying the scriptures microscopically defeats His agenda and weakens his ability to deceive you. So in every way, He finds new avenues to bombard our minds to go against the truth and live in sin and ungodliness. Society, monthly, and yearly create different distractions to keep us away from the truth and focus on worldly activities instead of setting our attention and interest upon heavenly things. The devil creates a whole list of agendas just for your soul to be snapped away into the depths of darkness, but instead of labeling it as darkness, it is showcased as entertainment and excitement. If we so desire to be citizens of heaven, then our attention and focus should not be on earthly things that will all perish. For if we set our attention on resources and not the source, we can expect ourselves to perish along with them. If we find it difficult to pray to God for hours, then how can we enjoy the presence of heaven? If we find it difficult to focus on the divine scripture that can lead one to purity and peace, then how can we expect to rejoice in glory land that is filled with peace and purity? Paul emphasizes that we must set our affections on things above. Why? Because we are believers in God, that is expecting to inherit a place all prepared for us. How can we enter into a place prepared for us when we lack preparation? The devil aims to prevent your preparation through worldly lust and desires that appeal to the carnal nature and create a wrestle in the mind against the spirit. Now, because of the carnality of our minds, we enjoy the pleasures of this world. As Christians, we must be uncomfortable in this world, for this is not where we belong. We belong to our creator, not to creation. Therefore, it is our duty as believers in God to be deliberate and intentional in resisting the schemes of the tempter who aims to destroy our lives. We have been aware of the tools to utilize. Paul shares about the whole armor, but many times, we believe each day is life as usual, and we operate as if we own ourselves. Without God's breath, we are dry bones in the valley of death, for it is He who has created us to proclaim the truth to a lost generation, and by doing this, we will find the joy in living spiritually and choking the carnality of our minds. Remember, what you feed will eventually become stronger and dominate. The world feeds the carnal (flesh) mind, but the bible, fasting, praying, and Christian fellowshipping feed the spiritual man. To become detached from this world means to resist the enemy because it is the devil that has deceived the world, and if you are not mindful, you may be a part of the influence.

Colossians 3:2-3

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Romans 8:6-8

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Revelation 12:9

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

1 Corinthians 2:14

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
